British electronics company Dyson will build a new state-of-the-art manufacturing center in Singapore with an investment of £ 2.75 billion ($ 4.93 billion).

The investment will cover the United Kingdom (UK) and the Philippines, doubling Dyson’s product portfolio and venturing into new areas by 2025.

One of its priorities, according to the tech giant, is to bring its solid-state battery technology to market, which is being developed in Singapore, the UK, the US and Japan.

The technology must provide a cleaner and more efficient energy storage device than current batteries.

While Dyson has not mentioned how many new hires it will hire for its new manufacturing facility, the company plans to hire additional machine learning, software and robotics engineers.

The company currently employs approximately 1,200 people in Singapore.

Despite the announcement that 900 jobs were cut in July due to Covid-19, 27 jobs were still hired here. This year, over 100 engineers were hired here.

In July of last year, the CEO of Dyson said the company expected its workforce “to increase dramatically over the next several years,” despite not disclosing the exact numbers.

In addition, the company plans to double its workforce at the science park, which would create 190 additional jobs over the next five years.

According to the Dyson Jobs Portal, there are currently around 65 job openings in Singapore.

The company’s new global headquarters at the St. James Power Plant in Singapore is expected to open in 2021.

At the same time, there are also plans to establish a university research program in Singapore to promote product development.

There are currently 22 such programs, including those with universities such as the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge.
