People who burn the EU flag or any other foreign flag in Germany can now spend up to three years in prison after a Thursday vote in the Bundestag. Justice Minister Christine Lambrecht, a member of the center-left SPD, said that "burning flags in public has nothing to do with peaceful protests". The new law also applies in cases where the flag is torn or torn in public.
