Uber will now require all drivers and passengers to wear masks 2

Uber passengers and drivers from Monday onwards will be required to wear face masks and travel in groups of three as a safety measure against coronavirus.

The transport company said on Wednesday that anyone using its services in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe and most countries in Latin America and Asia should use some form of blanket facial.

Uber added that all passengers should sit in the back. The number of passengers has been reduced from three to four, and those who break the rules could have their account deactivated.

In addition to wearing face masks, drivers will also need to disinfect their vehicles and lower the windows while traveling.

CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said the company has allocated more than $ 50 million to buy masks and disinfectants for drivers.

Last week, Uber announced that it will lay off 3,700 full-time workers, or about 14% of its workforce, in an effort to cut costs in the context of the coronavirus crisis.

He also said that as of May 2, Khosrowshahi had given up his salary for the rest of the year. According to a presentation on securities, last year he was eligible for a salary of $ 1 million and a bonus of $ 2 million.
