The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan presented its electricity supply strategy in 2020-2030, promising a radical program of reforms to meet the growing demand for energy from energy a growing population and a rapidly developing economy.

According to the ministry, the strategy is a high priority given by the government of Uzbekistan under the leadership of the president Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

"Our new concept note describes a comprehensive strategy to meet the growing demand for electric power in Uzbekistan," said the Minister of Energy. Alisher Sultanov

He said on May 4: "It also means that the development of our electricity sector will continue in accordance with international best practices. The scope of the strategy is ambitious, but it is based on realism with practical objectives and achievable by 2030 ". added.

The strategy outlines priority activities in the electricity sector, including the modernization and reconstruction of existing power plants, the construction of new generation assets using efficient power generation technologies , improving energy metering systems, diversifying fuels and developing renewable energy sources, including solar energy, and legal reforms to improve pricing policies and anticipate the transition to a wholesale market.

By 2030, the strategy is expected to produce an increase in installed and available generation capacity from 12.9 GW to 29.3 GW and an increase in electricity production from 63.6 billion kWh to 120.8 kWh, an expected reduction in consumption. natural gas from 16.5 billion cubic meters to 12.1 billion cubic meters; and reductions in transportation losses to 2.35% and distribution losses to 6.5%.

"The development of renewable energy sources will contribute to affordable electricity supplies in regions in current shortage. Renewable energies will improve environmental conditions, increase efficiency and boost the development of local industries, infrastructure and job creation, "said the Uzbek Ministry of Energy, adding that 39; in 2030, the state will remain the owner of hydroelectric power stations, nuclear power stations and certain thermal power stations: most of the country's power stations will be concentrated in the private sector.
