How to use DNS Benchmark to your advantage
1/9
To check DNS setup and performance, you should run a simple DNS test. You really CAN optimize it before you can test it! Click here or on the image above to download the software. While the GRC DNS benchmark has so many features to satisfy the needs of even the most demanding Internet gurus (because this benchmark has features designed specifically for serious DNS performance research), the accompanying box below shows that it’s also very easy for a first times and random users to execute:
Running DNS Benchmark on your computer or laptop will allow you to view the results as soon as they are received. This tool creates a list of servers that match certain criteria. Once you have identified the servers you want to test against, the test tool will create a list of them for you. It is so simple. The command line options are simple and fast to install.
For example, the command line options for DNS Benchmark could be done like this: grc DNS Benchmark DNS-server-ip-list= SERVER-ADDRESS, server-type= SERVER-ADDRESS-HOST, nameservers tab = true, nameservers tab = false. Once you have these parameters, you can determine which servers are slower, which are faster, and which respond best to DNS queries. The tab shows how many IP addresses are used by each of your servers and how often those IP addresses change. It is recommended to disable this feature if you do not need to see how many IP addresses are being used by your DNS servers. However, for simplicity, I usually set this function to “true”.
