Simple macOS tool for converting Final Cut Pro X XML data to EDL files

EDL-X is one of the applications that promises to help you create Editing Decision List (also known as EDL) files from Final Cut Pro X XML files.

An edit decision list file contains an organized list of reel and timecode data regarding the edits that should be made to obtain the final cut. EDL is used in the post-production process of video and film editing.

In other words, EDL-X enables you to generate CMX 3600 compliant EDL files and use them to import edits into different post-production systems such as Smoke, DaVinci Resolve, etc.

Simplified Source Reel customization workflow

EDL-X has flexible source volume naming capabilities, so you can get the source name directly from an FCP XML file or a QuickTime file used in your project. Alternatively, you can use the full file path and media file name to get the source name.

Simply drag the desired items into the Activity panel and the Preferences window helps you prioritize and select which items to use for source volume information. Additionally, you can limit the source volume name to 3, 8, 16, or 32 alphanumeric characters.

You can even select the types of tracks included in the EDL and configure EDL-X to ignore transitions and display clip names, media file paths, and mismatched frame rates. Another useful feature is “Force Sequence Timecode Format”, which you can use if the source timecode format does not match the sequence.
