About This Hack attempts to restore the info window that was available in Monterey and earlier macOS versions, and provides more information in the Overview tab. It includes support for AMD processors and Hackintosh.

Apple’s visual redesign in macOS Ventura has received mixed reviews, but there’s no question that the “About This Mac” information screen isn’t as good as the old one. You get less information right away, and accessing more details requires opening System Preferences.

As always, those who install macOS on a device not made by Apple tend to agonize over any of these changes, especially since the hardware information provided about this Mac is directly related to it.

Important system details at a glance

When you launch the app, you’ll notice that it looks almost exactly like the old About Native window. The only noticeable difference is that it also includes information about your connected monitor.

The Displays tab lists only your connected displays and gives you access to the Displays section of System Preferences.

Finally, the Storage tab displays some basic information about your startup disk. Sadly, you don’t get as much detail in the older versions of “About This Mac” or the “Storage” section in System Preferences.

Good for Hackintosh users or those who don’t like the Ventura UI redesign

About This Hack If the new version of the System Information window provides too little detail for your taste, especially if it doesn’t play well with your non-Apple hardware, it’s worth a shot. It makes data more accessible and restores the pre-Ventura look on native windows.
