What is considered a normal heart rate or heart rhythm?

According to the Mayo Clinic, the average resting heart rate for adults ranges between 60 and 100 beats per minute (BPM). However, it is important to note that various factors can affect heart rate, such as activity level, fitness level, body size and emotions. Generally, a lower heart rate at rest suggests better cardiovascular fitness and more efficient heart function.

If your resting heart rate consistently exceeds 100 BPM or falls below 60 BPM (unless you are a trained athlete), it is advisable to consult your doctor.

Understanding Heart Rate Training Zones:

Pulse training zones are determined based on maximum heart rate (MaxHR). Within each zone, specific physiological effects occur to improve fitness. Our zones are aligned with those used by Fitbit trackers:

  • Rest zone (up to 50% of HRmax): This zone represents a state of rest.
  • Fat burning zone (50% to 70% of HRmax): Recovery and warm-up exercises are carried out in this zone. It is called the fat burning zone because a higher percentage of calories burned come from fat.
  • Cardio Zone (70% to 85% of HRmax): This zone is suitable for most main exercises.
  • Peak zone (greater than 85% of HRmax): Ideal for short, intense sessions such as high intensity interval training (HIIT) to improve performance and speed.
