Auto mute is a minimalist macOS utility designed to help you avoid embarrassing situations by automatically muting your Mac’s sound in certain situations.

The AutoMute utility can handle two different triggers, and you can disable the service for a specific period of time.

By default, auto-mute apps remain in the status bar menu and let you know whether the sound is on or off via a minimalist menu icon.

Through the associated status bar menu, you can also specify triggers that control the application: if your Mac wakes from sleep, or if the headphones are disconnected. Note that the second trigger also works for Bluetooth headsets that are out of range of your computer.

Through the same menu you can toggle the presence of notification center alerts or disable the service for a fixed period (1 to 6, 12 or 24 hours).

If both triggers are always active and headphones are connected, Auto-Mute will not mute the sound when you wake your Mac from sleep, meaning if you turn on the headphones and the volume is high, the music will still Play. can hear.

At the same time, if you manually adjust the system sound using the media keys, Auto-Mute will not detect the change, so it will display an icon indicating that the sound is muted even if the status has changed.
