Back in macOS 10.12.2, Apple removed the remaining battery time indicator from the menu bar, leaving only the percentage indicator, just like on iOS. This number is often very inaccurate as it is calculated based on current usage and can change rapidly when you start a more demanding process.

While it may be wrong, many users have gotten used to it and found it more helpful than simple percentages. battery indicator is a very simple and lightweight app that brings it back, along with some interesting customization options that can make it more attractive than the default indicator.

By default, the app will show you how long you can run your laptop on the current battery level, you can click the menu bar icon for more details. Here you can see the battery percentage and the estimated time to drain the battery.

You can choose to show cost percentage instead of estimated time, and only show hover time. What’s more, the indicator light can be hidden when connected to a power plug, and the app will notify you when the laptop is fully charged or when the battery has dropped to a certain level.
