Apple removed the battery time remaining indicator back in macOS Sierra due to the fact that it wasn’t as accurate as they would have liked. Such an estimate will always be inexact, but it can still be helpful for getting a rough idea of how long you can keep using your MacBook.

Battery Time aims to bring that feature back, in a form that won’t look out of place on your desktop. You will see the remaining time in the menu bar, along with a percentage and a helpful graphic. To get more details, simply click the icon.

When the MacBook is on battery power, you’ll know how long you can keep using it. If it’s connected to a charger, the app tells you how long it will take until the battery is fully charged. You can disable the percentage and make the estimate more precise when it’s less than one hour.

Naturally, the estimate shouldn’t be trusted completely, especially not down to the minute. There’s a reason Apple removed the feature, namely that power consumption varies wildly depending on how the Mac is used, and an estimate cannot take into account what you’ll be doing a few hours from now.
