There are more cloud-based applications than ever before, with the obvious advantages of ease of access and synchronization. However, you do sacrifice some privacy, which is why native-only apps are still in demand.

It is an open source, cross-platform application that helps you write and organize notes through a minimalist interface and has many features for formatting text and managing notes. It also gives you the option to sync your files using a third-party file hosting service.

Beaver Notes was a joy to use from the start. The interface takes just seconds to become familiar with, with a classic layout that puts everything you need at your fingertips.

All formatting tools are available in the toolbar, allowing you to insert various Markdown elements, tables, images, links, etc. You can write notes using Markdown and the output will be generated automatically.

Navigation tools are visible in the sidebar and can be hidden in focus mode; in this mode, the toolbar is still accessible on mouseover.

Writing notes is easy, and you have enough features at your fingertips to structure your notes the way you like and include useful media.

To organize them, you can add tags anywhere in your notes, which will group notes that share the same tag. Additionally, you can add links to other notes to connect those that are related in some way.

For privacy reasons, you can also lock certain notes with a password. This is especially useful if you want to sync your notes and want to be extra careful.

Considering that the app is also available on Windows and Linux, you may want to sync your notes between multiple computers. You can do this by setting the sync path to the folder used by the cloud storage service and manually exporting the notes after making any changes.

I have nothing bad to say about Beaver Notes other than the fact that it’s based on Electron. It’s easy to use, has neat features, and is perfect for those who want a free note-taking app that doesn’t rely on a cloud service.
