While Apple’s weather service is available as a widget on macOS, it doesn’t exactly offer a lot of information. Even less than the iOS app, actually. If you find yourself needing more data, a third-party app like Big Weather should suit you nicely.

Striking a good balance between comprehensive information and an intu itive design, Big Weather offers what most users would need to know on a daily basis, and it can be accessed easily from the menu bar.

Easy-to-read weather forecast

Probably the app’s best feature is just how well the available information is laid out. You have a timeline showing you how the temperature is going to fluctuate over the next two days, as well as a 7-day forecast that highlights temperature ranges very intuitively.

If you’re not a fan of the graphical redesign that came with version 2.0, you can switch to the classic layout from the preferences. However, I believe the new design is superior in almost every way.

Lots of information, but it lacks humidity readings

Big Weather displays the current temperature at the selected location in the menu bar, and you can switch between multiple locations quite easily. Additionally, it shows you the local UV index, wind speed, and gust speed, which can be very helpful.

However, relative humidity has a big impact on how temperature is perceived, so it’s a big disappointment that it isn’t provided. Even a “feels like” temperature would have been helpful, as it takes humidity into account, but this value is only displayed if you’re using the classic layout.

Visually impressive, but not quite enough data

Big Weather makes the most of the information provided to users, as the graphic representations are remarkably easy to read and understand. However, a humidity reading is too important not to be included.

As far as the price is concerned, the fact that a weather API is used makes a subscription model reasonable, and you wouldn’t be paying that much for what it has to offer. As long as you like the app’s design, I feel it’s worth the money.
