BoxCryptor is an unobtrusive status bar menu application designed to help you encrypt files before uploading them to the cloud. The app will work with the most popular cloud storage solutions such as Dropbox, Box.net, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, SugarSync, and more.

Cloud encryption solution that is easy to install and set up

The BoxCryptor installation process continues by simply moving the utility to the application directory: you cannot run it from dmg.xml. To actually use the app, you must sign up for a BoxCryptor account: you can choose the free plan, which will use AES-256 and RSA encryption algorithms and allow you to manage permissions.

It’s worth noting that you must always remember the password you set for your account, as it is not recoverable: the BoxCryptor service does not store this information on its servers. You can read the BoxCryptor Privacy Policy to learn more about how data is handled.

Easily encrypt content stored in cloud drives

BoxCryptor will create a virtual drive where you can view all data stored in the cloud. The application automatically detects all online storage solutions installed on your Mac, but through the Preferences window you can choose which solutions the BoxCryptor service will activate for.

BoxCryptor allows you to view all files stored in the cloud and offers you the possibility to encrypt them via the context menu (there are graphical elements to help you distinguish encrypted and unencrypted files).

In BoxCryptor preferences, you can choose the encryption algorithm and block size to use.

BoxCryptor is also capable of encrypting filenames, but you can only access this feature if you get a paid subscription, which must be renewed every year.
