Bug fixes:

– [Microsoft OneDrive Sync]: Fixed a bug that could delete data from OneDrive when renaming or moving folders on OneDrive. The 5-minute and 10-minute synchronization period options are again available. If you already use OneDrive Sync and the sync period is set to 1 minute, the setting will automatically change to 5 minutes after updating to this firmware version.

How to use the updater:

1. Connect the TeraStation properly and configure the TeraStation and computer to run the updater on the same network subnet. The subnet masks should be the same, and the first three digits of the IP addresses should be the same. The last digit of the IP address should be different.
For example, if the computer’s IP address and subnet mask are
“192.168.0.10, 255.255.255.0”
The TeraStation’s IP address and subnet mask are
“192.168.1.150, 255.255.255.0”
then the updater will _not_ work properly.
In this case, reconfigure the TeraStation’s IP address and subnet mask to
“192.168.0.150, 255.255.255.0”.
Then they will be on the same subnet and the updater will work fine.
2. Close all applications. Also, stop or exit any firewall software.
3. Unzip the downloaded file and run “TSUpdater.exe”. When a TeraStation is detected, an update window will open.
4. If multiple TeraStations are connected, select the TeraStation to update.
5. Click Update and enter the TeraStation’s administrator password.
6. Click OK.
7. The transfer and update firmware will start. Wait until it’s done. The information LED will blink during the update.
8. When the update is complete, a message will be displayed.

Update firmware:

– Do not turn off the TeraStation until the firmware update is complete and the “Completed” message appears.
– Disconnect the iSCSI volume using the iSCSI initiator before updating the firmware.
– If you are using firmware version 4.00 and log files were created between updating the firmware to version 4.00 and now, those log files may be deleted when the firmware is updated. Before updating the firmware, make sure you have backed up the necessary log files to a folder not on the TeraStation.
– TeraStation may fail to start after restarting or updating firmware if your TeraStation meets the following conditions: (1) I70 and I71 information messages appear frequently, and (2) the firmware version is 4.00. If a problem has already occurred on your TeraStation, although the data on the TeraStation will be preserved, you cannot recover from the problem yourself. Contact Buffalo Technical Support for assistance. If this problem has not occurred, you can prevent it by changing the TeraStation’s logging settings. See the steps below to change file access log settings.
– Delete all existing file access logs. If log files are needed, copy them to another location. (Settings > Administration > Logs > File Access Logs > Delete > Yes)
– Changed settings to save fewer file access logs. (Settings > Administration > Logs > Edit > Change Archive Rule Settings. Units: Size / File Size: 100 MB / Version: 13)

notes:

– Make sure the TeraStation’s MTU size is set to a smaller value than the hub or router. Larger MTU sizes may not transfer data to the TeraStation properly.
– This firmware automatically sends your usage information to Buffalo. To disable this feature, after updating the firmware to this version, open Settings, then navigate to Manage > Updates > Edit and disable Update Notifications.
– Starting with firmware version 4.36, saved settings cannot be applied from a USB drive containing saved settings from devices running firmware version 4.32 or earlier. In this case, use a device running firmware version 4.36 or higher to recreate the setup recovery USB drive.
– If the TeraStation is a TS51210RH series model and two UPS units are connected, do not update the firmware from 3.11 or earlier to 3.12 or later. If the device has been updated, reconfigure the UPS settings.
– If you are using firmware 3.04 or earlier and the backup source or destination folder name contains “%”, you should reconfigure the backup job after updating the firmware to 3.12 or later.
– If you use firmware version 4.00 and configure the SMB protocol version to 2.2.2 or later, you may not be able to access the TeraStation from a client device. In this case, change the SMB version to 2.1 or lower.
– If an iSCSI volume created using an LVM-enabled drive or array is initialized, the iSCSI volume mode may appear as “NAS” instead of “iSCSI” in the NAS volume list. Even in this case, iSCSI volumes are still accessible through iSCSI initiators.
– If you are using firmware version 5.40 or earlier, data may be deleted from OneDrive when folders are renamed or moved on OneDrive, and OneDrive sync is enabled on the TeraStation and configured with two-way sync mode and 1, 5 or 10 minute sync cycle. Please update the firmware to the latest version.

Regarding NAS updates:

Upgrading Network Attached Storage (NAS) firmware can improve the overall performance, stability, and security of your system by adding various fixes for related issues, enhancing existing features (or adding support for new features), or updating different applications.

With so many NAS manufacturers and types of network storage, installing new firmware may not always be as easy as it seems — and not very secure either. Failure to perform a software update could result in a critical failure of the NAS.

Therefore, before you consider applying this release, please read the installation guide carefully and start the process only after you understand and are fully familiar with all the steps.

Also, it is best to consider using a UPS unit (Uninterruptible Power Supply) for this task, as a power outage will not affect the upgrade.

With all these aspects in mind, after reading the installation guide, click the download button to apply this firmware version to your NAS. Remember to check our website to stay up to date with the latest releases.

It is strongly recommended to always use the latest driver version available.

Try setting a system restore point before installing the device driver. This will help if you have incorrect or mismatched drivers installed. Problems can arise when your hardware device is too old or no longer supported.
