This application allows you to set the number of processor cores that are active at any given time, enable or disable hyperthreading and process throttling, and set custom CPU usage limits for specific processes.

Limit the number of active cores and toggle hyperthreading

CPUSetter lets you reduce the number of CPU cores that are active at any given time. While it is generally recommended to let the system manage the CPU, in some cases changing this setting manually may have advantages.

You also have the option to disable hyperthreading and process throttling. Both have a performance impact, so make sure you have a good reason to turn them off. All these settings, including the number of CPU cores, can be configured separately for AC and battery operation.

Limit process CPU usage and monitor system statistics

The app also comes with a process manager where you can change the amount of resources you are allowed to use as well as set their priority. Be careful though, as you can easily make apps unresponsive or even break them completely.

System Monitor is also very handy because it lets you keep an eye on your hardware while adjusting CPU allocation. It’s fairly basic, but it gives you all the information you need in a straightforward manner.
