Get ready for intense battles

The story of Cuphead revolves around him and his friend, Mugman, hitting it big at the local casino. When they lose one of their bets against the casino owner, the devil, they set out on a mission to reclaim their souls. If they want their souls back, they need to collect those of all the devil’s debtors.

This plot sets the scene for the game. It’s a side-scrolling platform where you engage with enemies over various stages that become increasingly difficult as you progress further. Cuphead is a lot like a ‘Dark Souls’ of the platform genre due to the intense boss battles. By far, the hardest battle is against Dr Kahl’s Robot, which takes place over different phases.

Cartoon retro theme

One of the most exciting elements of Cuphead is the throwback to 1930’s sounds and visuals. Studio MDHR has brought back the same cartoon retro themes of the time, masterly crafted with meticulous detail. Moreover, the darkness of the story translates well into horror themes within specific scenes.

Buff out against your enemies

As you progress through the game, you’ll unlock the ability to purchase new buffs and weapons with the coins you collect. Your arsenal consists of a special attack, a bonus power, and two weapons. The strategy in Cuphead lies in deciding which weapons to use against the difficult bosses.

Dark Souls meets Sonic

Cuphead features 1930’s cartoon art styles and sound with intense boss battles and horror scenes. It’s a side-scrolling platform game that becomes increasingly difficult the further you progress in the game. It’s a preview for what we can expect in the 2020 DLC, ‘The Delicious Last Course.’
