Whether you travel a lot, or your profession requires you to keep track of conversion rates, a currency converter comes in very handy indeed. You can always use your phone or the web, but a purpose-built app has its advantages.

Currency Assistant seems to have been designed with economists or very frequent travelers in mind, as it offers lots of quality-of-life features that make it easier to track multiple sets of currencies at the same time.

Create any number of desktop converters

You’ll be prompted to set up at least one converter during installation, but you can always create them later. Each of these converters will include two or more currencies, and you’ll be able to convert any value from one to another.

They appear as small desktop windows, with customizable window titles. To convert a sum, simply click any of the currencies and start typing a value or paste it. You can even paste an equation or import values from various types of documents.

Useful features for the financially-minded

If you open the sidebar in any window, you’ll see the “tape”, which keeps a record of all your conversions. You can select and copy text from here, or just save the entire tape to a document.

Converters can have separators to help organize a large number of currencies, and switching these up is as simple as clicking the currency name/flag and selecting a different one.

To make sure you have the most recent exchange rates, you can update them manually at any time, which can also be done automatically at startup.

Quite impressive currency converter

Currency Assistant does an excellent job. I was able to set up multiple converters in only a couple of minutes, and further customization is just as simple. It allows you to import amounts from pretty much anywhere, while also allowing simple text input. It’s an excellent tool for the job.
