This AsusWrt – Merlin Firmware The main goal of development is to improve the original ASUS firmware, fix bugs and add new improvements. This package includes a Custom firmware for ASUS routers Bring various changes without modifying the original firmware interface.

system:

notes: The 386_xx version is only available for Wifi 5 (802.11ac) models.
new: Merged with GPL 386_50757.
renew: getdns/stubby to 1.7.2/0.4.2.
renew: zlib to 1.2.12+ backport.
renew: openssl to 1.1.1s.
renew: inadyn to 2.10.0.
renew: nettle to 3.8.1.
renew: openvpn to 2.5.8.
renew: dropbear to 2022.83.
renew: dnsmasq to 2.88.
changed: Rename DNSFilter to DNS Director. This will prevent confusion with companies that share the same name, and will also better describe what the feature does.
changed: Setting the OpenVPN client to redirect all traffic in “Exclusive” DNS mode will now force redirect all DNS traffic, just like in VPN Director mode. While this will allow clients to be redirected using hard-coded DNS servers, it also means that your entire LAN will lose the ability to do local name resolution. In this case it is better to use VPN Director to control which client should participate in DNS redirection, or use DNSFilter instead of Exclusive DNS mode. Edit VPNDirector rules.
changed

: Switch the generated self-signed certificate to an EC certificate.
changed: Disable DSS key support in Dropbear SSH.
stable: Wrong temperature used by temperaturemap (386.8 regression)
stable: Guest network clients cannot be routed through VPN (regression in 386.4 after GPL merge).
stable: If NTP interception is enabled, clients connected to guest network 1 are not redirected to the router’s NTP.
stable: When enabling server certificate name verification for OpenVPN clients, the name was truncated to 31 characters.
stable: CVE-2022-37434 in zlib.
remove: interface selector on Speedtest page (no longer working, probably due to ookla client update)

Install

– Simply refresh it like any regular update. You don’t need to reset to factory defaults (see note below for exceptions). You can always revert to the original ASUS firmware by simply flashing the firmware downloaded from the ASUS website.
– If the firmware upgrade fails, try rebooting the router to free up enough memory, but don’t insert any USB flash drives, then try flashing again.
– If you have any issues after upgrading and you haven’t done so, try a factory reset.
– Always read the changelog, as force resets are mentioned here when necessary.
– In all these cases, do not load a saved copy of settings! This is the same as not resetting at all, since you’ll just re-enter any invalid settings you want to remove. Make sure to create a new backup of your settings after reconfiguring.

notes:

– It is strongly recommended to reset to factory defaults after flashing in the following cases: Updating from more than 3 versions of firmware or switching from Tomato/DD-WRT/OpenWRT firmware

Installation Notes:

– This custom firmware can be applied like any regular update.
– You don’t need to reset to factory default.
– You can revert to the original ASUS firmware anytime.
– Do not load saved copies of settings.

About router firmware:

Before you consider downloading this firmware, go to your router’s system information page and make sure that the currently installed version is neither newer nor matches this version.

Due to the variety of router models and device upgrade methods, it is strongly recommended that you read and most importantly understand the installation steps before applying new firmware, even if you are an advanced user.

In theory, these steps shouldn’t be too much of a hassle for anyone, as manufacturers try to make them easy, even if they don’t always succeed. Basically, you have to upload new firmware to the router and allow it to upgrade via its admin page.

If you install the new version, you can expect a higher level of security, fixes for different vulnerabilities, improved overall performance and transfer speed, enhanced compatibility with other devices, added support for newly developed technologies, and several other changes.

If you’re looking for some measure of security, remember it’s best to perform uploads using an Ethernet cable rather than a wireless connection, which can easily be interrupted. Also, make sure not to power off the router or use its buttons during the installation process if you wish to avoid any glitches.

If this firmware meets your current needs, obtain the required version and apply it to your router unit; if not, please visit our website as often as possible so as not to miss updates that may improve your device.

It is strongly recommended to always use the latest driver version available.

Try setting a system restore point before installing the device driver. This will help if you have incorrect or mismatched drivers installed. Problems can arise when your hardware device is too old or no longer supported.
