Install

– Just refresh it like any regular update. You don’t need to reset to factory defaults (see note below for exceptions). You can revert to the original ASUS firmware at any time by simply flashing the firmware downloaded from the ASUS website.
– If the firmware upgrade fails, try restarting the router to free up enough memory, don’t insert any USB stick, and try flashing it again.
– If you have any issues after upgrading and you haven’t done so, try restoring to factory defaults.
– Always read the changelog as forced resets are mentioned there when necessary.
– In all these cases, DO NOT load a saved copy of the settings! This is the same as not resetting at all, as you just re-enter any invalid settings you want to get rid of. Make sure to create a new backup of your settings after reconfiguring.

notes:

– Resetting to factory defaults after flashing is strongly recommended for: updating from more than 3 older firmware versions or switching from Tomato/DD-WRT/OpenWRT firmware

Installation Precautions:

– This custom firmware can be applied like any regular update.
– You don’t need to reset to factory defaults.
– You can revert to the original ASUS firmware at any time.
– Do not load saved copies of settings.

About router firmware:

Before considering downloading this firmware, go to your router’s system information page and make sure that the currently installed version is not a newer version or matches this version.

Due to the wide variety of router models and different methods of device upgrades, it is highly recommended that you read and most importantly understand the installation steps before applying new firmware, even if you are an advanced user.

In theory, these steps shouldn’t be a hassle for anyone, as manufacturers try to make them as simple as possible, even if they don’t always work out. Basically, you have to upload the new firmware to the router via its management page and allow it to upgrade.

If you install the new version, you can expect a higher level of security, different bug fixes, improved overall performance and transfer speeds, enhanced compatibility with other devices, added support for newly developed technologies, and several other changes.

If you’re looking for some safety precautions, keep in mind that it’s best to use an ethernet cable rather than a wireless connection to perform the upload, as wireless connections can easily be interrupted. Also, if you want to avoid any glitches, make sure you don’t turn off the router or use its buttons during installation.

If this firmware meets your current needs, get the version you want and apply it to your router unit; if not, visit our website as often as possible to avoid missing updates that improve your device.

It is strongly recommended to always use the latest driver version available.

Try setting a system restore point before installing device drivers. This will help if you have incorrect or mismatched drivers installed. Problems can arise when your hardware device is too old or no longer supported.
