Added and modified features:

– [File Sharing]: Modify the default selection for WebAccess permissions to “Use inherited folder permissions”. If WebAccess permissions are set to Allow Anonymous, users can access the folder through WebAccess even if folder access restrictions are enabled. For more details about WebAccess permissions, see the user manual.
– [Box Storage Sync]: Added “Box Storage Sync” feature only on TS3020 series TeraStations, allowing you to synchronize files with Box. You can upload/download files to the TeraStation or Box and have them sync with each other.
– [Backup]: Modified to reduce TeraStation process load when the backup process is running.
– [Backup]: Added “Send Entire File” backup option.

Bug fixes:

– [Backup]: Fixed a bug where data in the Recycle Bin would be backed up even if the “Don’t backup Recycle Bin” option was selected.
– [System]: Fixed a bug where shared folders were inaccessible.
– [System]: Fixed a memory leak bug in some processes.

How to use the updater:

1. Connect the TeraStation properly and configure the TeraStation and computer to run the update program on the same network subnet. The subnet masks should be the same, and the first three digits of the IP address should be the same. The last digit of the IP address should be different.
For example, if the computer’s IP address and subnet mask are

“192.168.0.10, 255.255.255.0”
The TeraStation’s IP address and subnet mask are
“192.168.1.150, 255.255.255.0”
Then the updater will not work properly.
In this case, reconfigure the TeraStation’s IP address and subnet mask to
“192.168.0.150, 255.255.255.0”.
Then they will be on the same subnet and the updater will work properly.
2. Close all applications. Also, stop or exit any firewall software.
3. Unzip the downloaded file and run “TSUpdater.exe”. When the TeraStation is detected, an update window will open.
4. If multiple TeraStations are connected, select the TeraStation to update.
5. Click Update and enter the TeraStation’s administrator password.
6. Click OK.
7. The firmware transfer and update will begin. Wait until it’s done. The information LED will flash during the update.
8. When the update is complete, a message will be displayed.

Update firmware:

– Do not turn off the TeraStation until the firmware update is complete and the “Completed” message appears.
– Before updating firmware, use the iSCSI initiator to disconnect the iSCSI volume.
– If you are using firmware version 4.00 and log files were created between updating the firmware to version 4.00 and now, these log files may be deleted when updating the firmware. Before updating the firmware, make sure you have backed up the necessary log files to a different folder outside of the TeraStation.
– The TeraStation may not start up after restarting or updating the firmware if your TeraStation meets the following conditions: (1) I70 and I71 information messages appear frequently, (2) the firmware version is 4.00. If a problem has occurred on your TeraStation, although the data on the TeraStation will be retained, you will not be able to recover from the problem yourself. Please contact Buffalo Technical Support for assistance. If the problem has not occurred yet, you can prevent it by changing the TeraStation’s log settings. See the following steps to change file access log settings.
– Delete all existing file access logs. If the log files are needed, copy them to another location. (Settings > Administration > Logs > File Access Log > Delete > Yes)
– Change settings to save fewer file access logs. (Settings > Administration > Logs > Edit > Change Archiving Rules Settings. Units: Size / File Size: 100 MB / Version: 13)

notes:

– Make sure the TeraStation’s MTU size is set to a smaller value than the hub or router. Larger MTU sizes may not transfer data to the TeraStation correctly.
– The firmware automatically sends your usage information to Buffalo. To disable this feature, open Settings after updating the firmware to this version, then navigate to Administration > Updates > Edit and disable Update Notifications.
– As of firmware version 4.36, saved settings cannot be applied from a USB drive containing saved settings for a device running firmware version 4.32 or earlier. In this case, create the setup recovery USB drive again using a device running firmware version 4.36 or higher.
– If the TeraStation is a TS51210RH series model and two UPS devices are connected, do not update the firmware from version 3.11 or lower to 3.12 or higher. If the device has been updated, reconfigure the UPS settings.
– If you are using firmware version 3.04 or earlier and the backup source or destination folder name contains “%”, you should reconfigure the backup job after updating the firmware to version 3.12 or later.
– If you use firmware version 4.00 and configure the SMB protocol version to 2.2.2 or higher, you may not be able to access the TeraStation from the client device. In this case, change the SMB version to 2.1 or lower.
– If an iSCSI volume created with an LVM-enabled drive or array is initialized, the iSCSI volume mode may appear as “NAS” instead of “iSCSI” on the NAS volume list. Even in this case, the iSCSI volume is still accessible through the iSCSI initiator.
– If you are using firmware version 5.40 or earlier, data may be deleted from OneDrive when you rename or move folders on OneDrive and bidirectional sync mode is enabled on the TeraStation and configured with 1, 5 or 10 Minute sync cycle for OneDrive sync. Please update the firmware to the latest version.

Regarding network attached storage updates:

Upgrading network-attached storage (NAS) firmware can improve the overall performance, stability, and security of your system by adding various fixes for related issues, enhancing existing features (or adding support for new features), or updating different applications.

Due to the large number of NAS manufacturers and types of network storage, installing new firmware may not always be as easy as it seems, nor can it be secure. Failure to perform software updates may cause serious failure of network storage.

Therefore, before you consider applying this version, please read the installation guide carefully and start the process only after you understand and are completely familiar with all the steps.

Additionally, it is best to consider using a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) for this task, as power interruptions will not affect the upgrade.

Taking all these aspects into consideration, after reading the installation guide, click on the download button to apply this firmware version to your NAS. Please remember to check back on our website to stay up to date with the latest releases.
