Tamper monkey is a Google Chrome browser extension that allows you to write and install user scripts to enhance the functionality of your browser or web pages you frequently visit.

Although browsers already support user scripts, Tampermonkey allows you to add and interact with them in new ways. It gives you an easier way to install, customize and manage scripts.

Extensions can be added from the Chrome Web Store, or, if you have a CRX file, you can simply drag and drop it into the browser’s main window to install it. Once installed, it adds a new icon to the browser interface where you can easily access it to add scripts or disable them.

Tampermonkey lets you use an intuitive dashboard where you can add new user scripts, organize them, change extension settings, and even export them to your computer. If you have the necessary experience to do so, you can use the built-in editor to write your own scripts. If provides you with a simple text editor with basic functions like “Search”, “Replace”, “Jump to Line”, and “Insert Constructor”.

In the same editor, you can save the script to your hard drive, reset it, or run a syntax check. One feature that Tampermonkey brings and takes advantage of is “Automatic Script Updates”. If the script was added from a website that provides such content, you can set up the application to periodically check for new versions of the script.

Depending on your experience with userscripts, Tampermonkey allows you to switch between three different types of configurations. Each of the “Novice”, “Beginner” and “Advanced” modes provide you with a certain number of features to extend their usability.
