Video players come in different shapes and sizes. Some devices cater to power users and offer more features, while others focus on being as light as possible.

Add clips from your computer or the web

This is a fairly lightweight application, which is obvious at first glance. After launching the program, video files can be added in two ways: locally, via the upload button, or externally, by entering a link to your clip. Drag and drop didn’t work for us.

The minimalistic interface won’t interfere with your content if you want to make any changes while it’s playing. Multiple clips can be added and their loops can be completed by interacting with the arrows that appear when you hover over the left and right parts of the video. The app also supports adding subtitles to make watching movies more convenient.

Additional controls help you focus on the best parts of your video

The fast-forward option is accessible from the main menu or via the arrow keys, which you can use to slow down or speed up the clip.

Looping is also possible, you can loop the entire video or part of it. The application can export your loop files in .mp4 format.

Problems with external links and backlinks

The ability to add stuff from the web sounds very exciting on paper. Unfortunately, we had no luck in our testing, as adding a YouTube link ended up returning no results. The same is true when entering a Vimeo link.

Not only that, but the “reverse video” feature doesn’t work at all, the result remains the same regardless of the length of the clip. We were also a little disappointed when the app refused to recognize the videos we put in it. This forced us to resort to entering our stuff through the program’s upload menu, which took more time and was less convenient.

All in all, Video Player is a promising app that is lightweight and includes some interesting features. Despite its shortcomings, it has potential, so it remains to be seen how much regular updates will improve it.
