Perhaps one of the reasons WhatsApp is so popular right now is because it has a simple and straightforward system that lets you know if your recipient received and read your message. Since the same applies to your messages, some people use read receipts to disable the above feature, so they can reply on their own time.

WA Stealth Is a Chrome extension for WhatsApp Web that has the effect of disabling read receipts and status updates. This means that while you can see what others are doing, your actions are never sent.

Adds an extra menu in settings where you can find new options

Once it’s installed in Chrome, you’ll be prompted to scan a QR code to connect to your WhatsApp account. Needless to say, this step is only necessary if you have not used WhatsApp Web before.

The extension essentially adds a new menu to WhatsApp where you can toggle two options on and off, Read Receipts and Last Viewed. When receipts are masked, unread messages will appear transparent, while messages you’ve read will be highlighted in red. So it’s easy to tell when you’re in incognito mode.

Another notable feature of the extension is that it keeps deleted messages so they can be recovered later. Additionally, you can configure it to automatically send receipts after a given interval, an option you can cancel at any time.

Unfortunately it doesn’t work in multi-device mode

According to the developer, the extension has a limitation that it does not work in multi-device mode. If you disable the “Last seen” option here, that means you also won’t be able to see when other participants were last online. This is because WhatsApp servers usually do not send status updates to offline devices.
