Free USB Disk Security is a small free application developed by avdsoft that claims to keep your flash drives and USB drives safe and secure. The interface is simple and clear; a shortcut is created during installation. However, to access the application options and open the main interface, you need to click the Free USB Disk Security icon in the notification area of ​​the taskbar.

The app offers two main USB tools: a shield to protect against incoming threats and a scan feature to scan flash drives after they’re inserted. In addition, there is an option to restore your system, which consists of the basic tools already provided by Windows. The Home button provides an overview of the application’s services.

While Free USB Disk Security seems like a great idea in theory, it’s very difficult to determine whether it actually does anything useful. The scan happens extremely quickly, to the point where it is unclear whether it was ever done at all. Real-time security monitoring also fails because the app was unable to register the insertion of the USB drive.
