Writing down your ideas is hard enough without having to worry about formatting, and works like screenplays and novels have very specific structures you need to stick to.

Highland is intended to make a writer’s life easier by taking care of everything other than putting words on the page. It handles formatting, analyzes your writing, helps you navigate documents, puts useful info within reach, and more.

Work less for the same result

If you’re a screenwriter, this app intelligently manages page structure so that you can focus on nothing but the content itself. For instance, if you type a character’s name in uppercase, the next line will automatically be formatted as dialogue.

That goes for things like scene headers as well, which are formatted appropriately, and Highland will suggest names that have already been used once. Similarly, indentation is managed automatically. Basically, all you have to do is write the words and press Enter to move to the next line.

Great for other types of documents, and comes with templates

Designed for writers in general, not just screenwriters, Highland can be used for stuff like novels, stage plays, manuscripts, graphic novels, papers, journals, and more. It comes with templates for all of these, allowing you to get a head start.

In addition, you get all sorts of tools that help you navigate, write, and analyze your works. The sidebar houses the navigator, snippets of text, statistics, assets, as well as a scratchpad for useful notes. There’s also a revision mode for tracking changes, and even a gender analysis tool for your characters.

Clean and intuitive UI

The user interface is very easy to work with. Minimalistic by design, it allows you to focus on your writing, but it still puts your most useful tools within reach. If, like me, you’re not a fan of the blinding white background, you have plenty of customizable themes to switch to.

All in all, Highland is perfect for anyone who writes for a living, particularly screenwriters and novelists. It makes it easier to focus on the content by taking care of how everything is laid out, and it comes with a bunch of features to help you keep things in check.
