iFindText (formerly known as ask poirot) is a macOS application that helps you search for a word or text fragment in multiple documents at once and check the number of occurrences.

Additionally, the iFindText app comes with a fast search engine that can process hundreds of documents in seconds. Furthermore, AskPoirot can handle many types of files such as XLS, TXT, RTF, DOC, etc.

For example, iFindText can be used to detect any misspelled words that you may have typed multiple times in multiple documents. All you have to do is specify the target file, enter a word and click the “Search” button.

In addition, iFindText has a simple and intuitive user interface, making all functions of the application visible. The main window consists of a pane listing all documents containing the search term along with the number of hits. The total number of hits is also displayed above the “Hits” column.

Additionally, you can sort the information (filenames, found text, and hits) by clicking on the respective column names. Another thing you can do is double-click each entry and the selected document will open in the corresponding application.

On the left side of the main window you can see the number of search results, resolution details (number of folders, total number of files and resolved files) and elapsed time.

The main window also includes a “Find” field where you can enter a search query and an “Insert” menu for selecting the type of document to work on.

Some other features include choosing an encoding type and the ability to specify file types you don’t want to process. Additionally, you can toggle an option to search or not search for complete words, and toggle an option if you want the search to be case-sensitive.
