Scan entire folders for JPEG images that can be compressed to save space

To start using the JPEG Jackal application, you simply drag and drop the image file you want to process on top of the application’s main window. Note that this utility can only handle JPEG file formats.

It’s worth mentioning that you can also drag and drop entire folders onto the main JPEG Jackal window and the application will start scanning them for files that can be optimized. Through the JPEG Jackal preferences, you can also choose to analyze subfolders.

The same JPEG Jackal preference panel allows you to adjust the compression level, from high compression to high quality: just move the marker along the slider to change the configuration.

Experiment with built-in compression algorithms without changing the original

Since JPEG Jackal allows you to output optimized files to a separate folder, you can experiment with configurations until you get the result you like. The application will prompt you for an output directory every time you start a zipping task.

On the other hand, JPEG Jackal allows you to change the default settings to overwrite files or automatically save them to a selected folder.

After the process is complete, you can see how much space was freed in the main JPEG Jackal window. The app presents information in percentages, but also generates graphs to help you visualize the information.

All in all, JPEG Jackal comes with a built-in JPEG optimization algorithm that enables you to decide whether you want to increase the compression level and reduce the file size, or maintain the quality.
