About Madal:

Madal (Nepali: मादल) is primarily used to maintain the rhythm in Nepali folk music. It is the most popular hand drum in Nepal and is widely used by Nepalese and cultural folk musicians all over the world, including countries such as USA, Australia, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Spain, South Korea, Cyprus, Mexico, Portugal, England, Norway and Russia. Madal has significance in various Nepalese festivals like Holi, Dashain, Tihar, Maghe Sakranti, Shivratri, Krishna Janmastami, Teej as well as local gatherings like picnics, weddings and farewell events.

This traditional Nepalese percussion instrument has a cylindrical body with a small bulge in the middle and heads at both ends; one head is larger than the other. Usually played horizontally in a sitting position, both heads are struck simultaneously.

The Madal serves as the foundation for most Nepali folk music genres like Lok Dohori, Adhunik Geet, Nepali Songs, Nepali Movie Songs, Nepali Pop Songs, Teej Songs and Geet, Dheusi Vailo songs.
