MAMP, is an acronym for Macintosh, Apache, MySQL, and PHP, so Apache is the first part of MAMP. Thanks to its modular structure, you can easily enhance your http web server with various add-ons. In addition, MAMP provides more than 70 Apache modules, including PHP, Webdav, SSL, Cache, Auth, and more.

If you need to develop and test a modern, dynamic website, you also need a flexible database. MySQL is one of the most commonly used relational database systems and one of the features of MAMP. Thus, you can develop well-designed MySQL database applications on your local computer and upload them to your live system when ready.

Simple and straightforward Python and Perl installation

Additionally, MAMP provides two versions of PHP, and you can quickly switch between them by visiting the Settings window. Additionally, most of the extensions used, such as Sqlite, XCache, FreeType, libxml, and Curl, come pre-installed with MAMP.

In addition to the above components, MAMP also installs the latest version of Python, along with mod_python and mod_wsgy. Additionally, MAMP has Perl integration via mod_perl, which allows you to execute perl scripts outside of cgi-bin.

From MAMP’s start page, you can view and inspect all available information about installed components, and even access web tools such as SQLite Manager, phpLiteAdmin, and phpMyAdmin.
