Using special characters for files, especially if you intend to use them on the web, can cause all kinds of problems. Manage name extensions is a minimalist yet very efficient OS X application that handles basic file renaming tasks.

Quickly define custom renaming patterns for files

ManageNameExt user interface is represented by a normal window, in the top area you can see a list of imported files and folders that will be processed, while the bottom area is reserved for editing tools.

In the main ManageNameExt window, you can choose to use lowercase, uppercase, or titlecase for filenames, or decide to leave them unchanged. At the same time, you can replace individual characters with other characters, add prefixes or suffixes.

Additionally, you can modify the modification date and time of a file, or prepare it for the web. When preparing files for the web, ManageNameExt applies the rules defined in the preferences window: it replaces certain characters with others and ensures that files use only authorized symbols.

Effortlessly manipulate file extensions

It’s worth noting that ManageNameExt also handles cleaning file extensions. You can choose to add a specific extension (manually or automatically), remove it completely, or just hide it.

At the same time, you can quickly switch them to lowercase, uppercase, or capitalized. ManageNameExt automatically handles the changes and allows you to preview the results, but to complete the process you have to press the “Process” button located in the lower right corner of the main window.

ManageNameExt provides you with the necessary tools for working with entire folders and individual files at the same time and creating coherent naming patterns for your files. Plus, you can prepare them for the web and choose to use the same format for file extensions.
