MP3Resizer is a self-explanatory macOS application that helps you reduce the size of audio files.

MP3Resizer may prove useful when you want to transfer a large number of music files and audiobooks to a phone or MP3 player with a small amount of storage space.

File reduction is achieved by recompressing the original file at a lower bit rate, so overall audio quality may drop significantly.

MP3Resizer comes with a simple and intuitive interface from which you can quickly add files or folders containing audio files to the list. The top toolbar helps you clear the list and start or stop the recompression process.

Unfortunately, MP3Resizer does not offer a “pause” function, and the integrated file browser cannot display the contents of the selected folder. However, you can simply drag and drop the files you need to resize directly into MP3Resizer’s main window.

The right panel helps you set the output location and configure MP3Resizer to preserve the original folder structure. On top of that, you can adjust the quality of the output file and enable the “Joint Stereo” function with the click of a mouse button.

Although MP3Resizer has a color-coding system for the MP3 files loaded in the tag list, it does provide information about the importance of each color.

Recompression is very slow

The biggest disappointment is the speed with which MP3Resizer processes files. During our testing, MP3Resizer took about a minute to process every MB of audio. In other words, you need nearly 13 minutes or more to resize a 13 MB MP3 file.

The same results were obtained when testing MP3Resizer on a dual core iMac or a Mac Pro with dual quad cores and 12 GB RAM.

In conclusion, MP3Resizer is a slow and inefficient application that promises to help you easily resize MP3 files. In fact, it’s an overpriced app that reduces the bitrate of audio files very slowly.
