Download Free mSecure 6.0.1 (Mac) – Download
mSecure is a fairly old name in the password manager world, previously offering a free version and a one-time purchase of paid plans. Now things have changed and mSecure has switched to an industry standard subscription model.
It also comes with a host of new features to sweeten the deal, making it more in line with the most popular password managers out there. It now offers pretty much everything you’d expect from an app of this type, including extensions, password sharing, add-ons, and more.
Classic UI design and extensive password management features
When you start mSecure for the first time, it may feel familiar immediately. It has a simple three-panel layout listing categories, entries and details. It can store passwords, credit card bills, and any other type of information you deem sensitive enough.
Each entry type uses a template, and these templates are fully customizable. You can add or delete fields, reorder, and more. A password generator is included, and you can now also attach files to entries.
Password sharing is also now part of mSecure. You can create multiple vaults and add users to each vault to control which entries they have access to.
Available on all major platforms and browsers
In addition to the major desktop and mobile platforms, extensions are also available for Chrome and Firefox. They’re fairly basic, offering password autofill, the ability to search for entries, a password generator, and automatic capture of new credentials.
On Safari, the only feature available is password autofill. It would be great if other features were also available, especially automatic credential capture.
Of course, since subscriptions allow you to use multiple devices, you can now easily sync data between them. There are multiple sync methods available, such as mSecure Cloud, iCloud, Dropbox, and Wi-Fi.
A strong password manager that needs more Safari features
Version 6 of mSecure includes a number of improvements that may make the new subscription model more acceptable to users. It definitely rivals other mainstream password managers in terms of features, so it’s a solid choice.
However, given Safari’s popularity on macOS, unless you’re using the Chromium browser or Firefox, the limited functionality available in this browser makes it harder to recommend.
