It is common for software developers or system administrators to use various Linux distributions for testing or maintenance, but it is usually not necessary to install and start a complete instance of the operating system. You usually only need one virtual machine, but how do you set up a virtual machine as quickly as possible?

multi-channel Provides a simpler alternative software for Mac users, such as VirtualBox and QEMU. It allows you to initialize an Ubuntu VM in a few seconds, allows you to quickly test the code, and then delete the instance with a simple command.

On macOS, the program uses hyperkit as the backend by default, but if you prefer, you can also use VirtualBox for virtualization. All you need to do is run a simple terminal command after installing Multipass.

If you try to start the instance without other parameters, the current Ubuntu LTS will be installed, but you can also set other versions. These can be managed from the terminal or the menu bar, but most functions can only be used through the command line.

You can run commands in any available Ubuntu instance directly from the terminal, but you can also open a shell inside the instance and use the Ubuntu command line directly.
