MyDock lets you do both. It can act as a secondary Dock that can be placed anywhere you like, or replace the macOS Dock entirely. Its main advantage is that it can be moved freely on the desktop.

Place it anywhere you like

Freed from the limitations of the Apple Dock, MyDock can be moved anywhere, even to the center of the screen, if you wish. This is useful for certain workflows where placing the Dock at the edge of the screen is undesirable.

To add or remove applications from the Dock, access Preferences through a new icon added to the menu bar. You can add an app by browsing to its location or dragging and dropping it into the list.

Customizable to a certain extent

You can choose from three icon sizes, can be oriented horizontally or vertically, and the opacity can be set from 0 to 100%. Unfortunately, the dimensions cannot be adjusted as finely as with a standard base.

Other features available in the native tools are also not included, such as magnification, open application indicators, the ability to display minimized windows individually, and auto-hide functionality.

Probably works best as a companion to the original Dock

I don’t think MyDock can completely replace Apple’s Dock because it doesn’t offer enough functionality. There also seems to be a lack of margins on the right/bottom side of the interface, which makes it look a bit ugly.

Thankfully, you can choose to keep both MyDock and the native Dock active, in which case the app works well as a launcher and app switcher.
