OBS Studio is an open source video editing and live streaming software. This software, also known as Open Broadcaster Software Studio, allows you to integrate multiple media sources such as webcams, capture cards, window snapshots, browser windows, etc. All videos, audios and images from these sources can be edited in OBS . The program has an extensive set of video and photo editing tools, as well as an audio mixer. By combining your hardware with these tools, you can improve the quality of your live streams from any Apple computer running macOS 10.12 or later.

Functions

The core of OBS Studio is “Sources” and “Scenes” as most of your assets will be placed in one of these two sections. It’s important to understand that Scenes are just one source in this program. This means you can create an unlimited number of scenes with a limited number of sources. Examples of other sources include audio input/output capture, game capture. Media source, Pango text source and VLC video source.

Once you have selected a source from the list, you will see a red frame around your source window. This will let you know that the window can be moved, resized, or cropped. The ability to trim is necessary to remove other programs from view of the audience. Using the media files you were able to obtain, you can create a scene. Scenes can be labeled with letters, numbers and symbols, but cannot have the same name as the source. For example, you can’t label a scene as “Game” if the source already has the same name.

OBS Studio has other features that can enhance the look of your live broadcast, such as scene transitions, filters, mixers, SRT protocols, etc. With so many features, OBS is best suited for users with TV broadcasting experience or extended live broadcast. This allows them to project different forms of media while editing them at the same time. New users or hobbyists can also use this program. The number of functions can be overwhelming, but their simple and organized structure will help you learn the location and use of each tool.
