Apple provides a built-in utility to manage your contacts, but it’s not complicated and can’t be password protected. If you need additional functionality, third-party solutions are the answer.
Personal contact information is a self-explanatory name for an app designed to keep your contact information private and protect your privacy. In addition to this, it makes it easier to sort your contacts and find relevant details.
First, you need to provide a password to protect your first database. Multiple databases can be created and protected with different keys. They are saved as encrypted documents and can be loaded easily.
You can lock a document at any time to make the information inaccessible. The system is fairly simple and uses AES-256 encryption to protect your data.
Once your document is set up and secure, you can start adding data. Any type of relevant information can be added to each contact entry, and you can also import data from an existing database or text file.
Each entry can be placed in a specific category, which will make it easier to distinguish them at a glance. Categories will appear next to the contact’s name on the left, and you can sort the list by name or category.
All labels are freely customizable, making the app very versatile if you need to enter a specific type of data. Buttons are available for entries that can be opened in a browser or dedicated application, such as websites and email addresses.
The filtering functionality is a bit basic but still good. It will filter all entries by certain strings, no matter where they are in the contact table.
Private Contact is definitely an upgrade from Apple’s Contacts app, offering more features and the option to encrypt data. The only thing it might benefit from is a filtering option for specific tags, which would make sorting large databases much easier.
