If you think about it, when was the last time you copied some text and wanted to keep it in its original format? Honestly, I don’t remember, the default is to inherit the format when it’s rarely needed, which is kind of weird.

pure paste Designed to turn things around and make the default action paste as plain text. It also gives you the option to manually clear formatting if you wish, as well as the ability to exclude apps or certain types of content.

The way to paste should work

On macOS, you can use ⌥⇧⌘V Hotkeys – clunky to say the least. It will only slow you down if you need to copy and paste a lot.

Once installed, Pure Paste will paste as plain text as the default action. It will ignore images and files, as well as text copied from the password manager, and you can also choose to keep links and remove tracking parameters from URLs.

Manually remove text formatting

With automatic formatting enabled, you can press Option (⌥) when copying text to keep its original format. Alternatively, you can disable automatic clearing and set up a shortcut that removes formatting from anything you’ve copied to the clipboard.

If you configure this shortcut to also paste processed text, you can basically create a simpler hotkey to paste text without formatting.

Exclude applications from automatic formatter

If some applications need to keep their formatting when copying text, just add them to the exclude list. This allows you to paste plain text by default, but still preserve formatting when copied from a specific application.

Pure Paste offers the kind of customization options we wish we had available in macOS. It makes pasting as plain text the default action, while still allowing you to manually clear formatting and exclude content or applications as needed.
