QMapShack is a trip planning app for macOS that lets you create routes or tracks for travel while using custom maps. Additionally, QMapShack can also be used to view GPS data captured during your previous trips.

Modular map viewer that can integrate custom digital elevation models

The QMapShack main window contains 4 different modules that can be easily rearranged: Maps, Data, Routes and Digital Elevation Models. Of course, most of the space is reserved for viewing the currently active map.

First, you need to open your map and GIS data files and select the ones you want to activate. Note that the QMapShack developers have provided extensive documentation for the project, even though it may not be up to date with all changes.

QMapShack is able to open various types of map files such as Garmin vector maps, .jnx raster maps or TMS and WTMS online maps. Additionally, the digital elevation model is separate from the map file, and you can apply slope shading and hillshading.

Plan future trips and organize routes into separate projects

In the QMapShack application you can search for specific locations and define waypoints, routes, areas and tracks with the help of Google search.

Note that each item is fully editable, and you can use offline (Routino) or online (MapQuest) resources to calculate distances.

Additionally, QMapShack enables you to import GPS data captured by Garmin or TwoNav devices. Therefore, you can also use the QMapShack application to analyze previous trips.

All in all, QMapShack can be used to visualize various types of maps and plan trips by creating custom waypoints and routes. The data can be organized into different projects, and you can also import GPS data (if available) to keep track of your past travels.
