Stage Manager is a really cool window management feature added in macOS Ventura, but it does take some getting used to and still needs some tweaking. One particular problem is that it’s hard to tell what’s in a window group, as the little preview on the left can quickly become cluttered.

stage landscape Aims to solve this problem by generating a full preview of all these windows, making it easier for you to view, select and manage items. It works well, but like the stage manager itself, it can feel clunky at first.

The idea is simple. When two or more windows are in a group, you can hover the cursor over the unified preview to get a separate view of all containing windows. These will include the app’s icon and title (if any).

You can customize the size of the previews and add a short delay so they don’t appear right away. You can also prevent them from appearing in a single window, which I highly recommend, while adding a delay.

From the preview, you can close, minimize and full screen the window. Also, you can change their order before switching to groups.

Once the preview is shown, clicking on one of the windows will bring it to the foreground, and clicking on a window (any window) again will switch to that group. Some documentation would be helpful for this feature, as it can be confusing at first.

A great addition to stage managers

In short, Stage View does a good job, but the window selection functionality might need some tweaking, or at least some documentation to get users started. I also recommend switching to dark or light mode from the app’s settings, as I think they both look better than the default classic mode.
