As ChatGPT takes the world by storm, client applications for various desktop operating systems are sure to follow. Of course, not all clients are created equal, and those that use web code, such as Electron, are much more common than those that run on native code.

Swift GPT, as you might have guessed from the n ame, is one of the latter. It is designed to provide a smooth and resource-less experience for anyone who wishes to access ChatGPT from their desktop. Using your OpenAI API key, it lets you interact with chatbots, save conversations, and even calculate their costs.

Simple, clean user interface

swiftGPT looks like any other native Mac app, with a very lightweight UI, including a chat window and a side panel. Panels can be hidden, but the dedicated buttons don’t seem to work at the moment. You can still drag the panel border to close it.

You can navigate between existing chats, create new chats, type new queries, and read replies. Everything is geared toward simplicity, and the layout is familiar.

Dialog History and Cost

First, you need to provide your OpenAI API. While you’re in the Settings window, you can also enable or disable the cost calculator, which will keep track of how much each conversation will cost you.

All chats are saved and can be accessed at any time unless you choose to delete them or start from scratch. Calculate the cost of individual conversations and each chat initiated through the application. Those starting to use other clients or web services will not be included.

A lightweight ChatGPT client for Mac users

swiftGPT is in early development and does not yet include all planned features such as code highlighting. There are still some kinks to be ironed out, like the sidebar buttons. Still, if Electron-based clients or web applications aren’t your thing, it looks like a good alternative for macOS.
