giant is a trading game that takes place in the seas of China in the 18th century: you need to sail goods to different locations and use your skills to make more money. Of course, you might also encounter pirates, so things won’t be that easy.

The Taipan game immediately prompts you to enter a company name and decide your current situation: you can choose to have cash and debt but no cannons, or you can choose to have five guns but no cash or debt.

As you start crossing the China Sea to different locations (Hong Kong, Shanghai, Saigon, Nagasaki, Singapore, Batavia or Manila), you may encounter pirates and earn by deciding to fight them and capture their ships funds.

At the same time, you can buy opium, silk, arms, or groceries and sell them in different ports to make a profit. Please note that unit prices vary at each location, so make sure you get the best deal.

In the Taipan panel you can view the status of your current ship and decide whether you want to repair it or buy a new ship. Be aware that your ship may take damage while fighting or escaping from pirates.

If you have no money, you can borrow money from Mr. Wu, but remember that if you don’t pay back the money, you can’t borrow anymore.

The fact that you can borrow money can get you out of a lot of trouble, especially if your ship is damaged or you don’t have enough money to buy goods.

The point of Taipan is to use your business instincts to make favorable deals in all situations: buy goods cheaply and sell them at a higher price in another port.

Of course, the game also has an element of chance: you might encounter pirates along the way and damage your ship while escaping, or the price of the port isn’t high enough so you need to keep traveling.
