The Spotlight search tool, which is integrated into Mac OS X by default, is very useful, but doesn’t allow you to use custom rules to filter your search results. Elephant is a simple Mac application based on the Spotlight engine designed to help you get more relevant search results.

The Tembo user interface is represented by a simple, organized window where you can perform searches, view results, and apply various filters. For your convenience, Tembo allows you to have multiple search windows open at the same time, which means you can execute multiple queries at the same time.

Right now, Tembo results are organized by file type categories, but you can also sort results by created/modified/last opened date (you can also specify an appropriate time range). At the same time, you can choose the source location (you can add specific folders to the list via the context menu).

Notably, for each file type, Tembo comes with a set of contextual filters that can be enabled to further refine the result list. That way, you can choose to view only images with a specific resolution, messages with a user-defined sender or recipient, audio tracks belonging to a specific artist, and more.

All in all, Tembo is a great tool if you want to take full advantage of the built-in Spotlight search engine: the app uses the same resources, but with customizable filtering that has the potential to significantly reduce processing time.
