TEXworks is a text editor designed to provide access to the TEX family of tools. The design of TEXworks is very simple, at first glance it provides basic text editing tools and a button and a menu to typeset (LA)TEX text.

When you start the editor, you see a very sparse interface: a title bar, a menu bar, two small toolbars, a large typing area (white), and a status bar at the bottom.

This is the source/editor window, if you have formatted the document before, the resulting .pdf will be displayed to the right of the preview window.

To start from scratch, you must first create a document and write some text, then press the corresponding button to start typesetting.

A new panel opens between the input area and the status bar: the output panel, labeled Log; everything LATEX does is displayed there.

When LATEX finishes, this panel disappears (if no errors occur), and a new window appears: the preview window. Of course, you can return to the source window at any time.
