F3D It’s a quick solution for all designers, architects, VFX artists and other professionals who need to analyze 3D models simply and efficiently.

About the plan and its minimalist outlook

As an open source project, F3D offers a great deal of transparency and accessibility. Cross-device tools are primarily built using the C++ language. It runs on the most popular operating systems (Windows, Linux, and m acOS) and is free. For a tool of this type, there is a surprising lack of a graphical user interface. After all, if your purpose is just to view the model, you don’t really need it.

However, to make up for the lack of a GUI, the program has a built-in command line that runs super fast and efficiently. All you have to do is start typing the command and its given parameters. The tool is very responsive and although it doesn’t come with a more user-friendly/interactive menu, it still gets the job done. If you’re not sure which command or option is available, just type “h” and the object viewing controller will appear on the screen.

Commands, functions, and common options

Loading the model can be done in different ways: using the drag-and-drop function, running the program from the PC terminal using the command line option, or executing the “open-with” command on the existing 3D object machine. The tool supports many well-known formats such as VTK, other XML-based VTK formats, PLY, STL, DCM, GML, OBJ, 3DS, PTS, WRL, etc.

By typing “h” while viewing the model you will see simple interactive commands. However, if you need access to a more complex set of instructions available from the application’s command line, you can view all instructions in its documentation. Among the generally available options, you can also choose to use custom instructions for materials and textures, PostFX/OpenGL, camera configurations, ray tracing, testing or scientific visualization techniques (including scalar components).

All in all, F3D is a simple, system-built application that covers all the basic requirements of a 3D viewer.
