Both macOS and Windows operating systems create hidden files on your USB drives designed to help them perform searches, access data faster, and more. However, these files remain on the drive even after you eject the disk and take up space unnecessarily.

At the same time, if you use USB on different platforms, the files may become visible and interfere with your playlists etc. USBclean is a simple macOS tool designed to fix problems.

The utility will quickly delete .DS_Store, Thumbs.db, .Spotlight and Trash files after dragging and dropping the external drive to the top of the main USBclean window. Additionally, through the USBclean Preferences, you have the option to delete the .appdisk and Thumbs.db Windows files.

Effortlessly keep all your drives safe from junk files

Whenever you need to eject an external drive, you can use USBclean successfully because the utility first cleans the disk and then automatically disconnects it from your Mac. To verify that cleanup was done before ejecting, you can optionally send data to a log file.

For better integration with your workflow, USBclean also allows you to drag and drop a USB onto the top of its Dock icon, or you can enable its status bar menu and drop Dock items entirely.

In the USBclean menu bar, you can view all currently connected external drives and start the cleaning process with a single mouse click. Additionally, you can open the app’s window and easily navigate to preferences.
