More and more tech companies are hiring employees from all over the world, and when it comes to scheduling meetings or discussing anything time-related, things can quickly become confusing because time zones and daylight saving time are not intuitive.

UTC time is a very simple application that displays the current UTC time in the menu bar and also uses a notification center widget. You can see how far your local time is ahead or behind UTC, and copy the current UTC date and time in various formats.

As expected, the application is very simple. When launched, it will add a menu bar item showing the current UTC time, and an option to show the date. You also have the option to remove “UTC” from the time display.

Like all other menu bar items, you can hold Cmd and drag around to change its position in the menu bar. If you click on a time, a menu will appear showing how far ahead/behind local time is, and you can also copy the date and/or time to the clipboard in ISO8601 format or as a Unix timestamp.

Includes a notification center widget

If you wish, you can enable an optional widget to view the UTC time in the notification center. Note that the app needs to be running in order to update the widgets.

There’s no option to hide the time from the menu bar, but there are various apps that hide unnecessary menu bar items. If you use one of these, you can hide the UTC time in the menu bar and access it only through the widget.

Overall, UTC Time is a very simple and very useful little app. It makes it easier to coordinate with people from all over the world, is simple to set up, and costs nothing.
