Desktop widgets are a great way to put your desktop to good use. They can provide useful functionality or valuable information, and maybe even spice up a boring background.

Widgetter is designed to help you set up various types of widgets on your desktop, either by adding them individually or by using themes that have been prepared beforehand. These include the widgets themselves, in a specific layout, and suitable wallpapers.

Set up widgets with little effort

If you want to add widgets one by one, just open up the app, head to the Widgets section, and drag them to your desktop. Once there, you can customize their position, dimensions, theme, and other specific settings.

Among the available widgets, we can mention a clock, calendar, weather forecast, music player, CPU, RAM, and fan speed monitor, stock tracker, and task manager. Some are available in different styles, and most are not available in the free edition.

Themes and wallpapers to complete the look

Themes are a good way to help new users get started immediately, and they give you some ideas as to how to set things up. They are quite nice, but there are very few of them, and I’d definitely like to see more.

Thankfully, you get a lot more wallpapers, and you can combine these with custom widget configurations to create your own themes.

UI improvements and free edition

The UI is a bit difficult to navigate. The window’s width cannot be changed, so only a small number of items are visible in the main window at any one time. That’s not helped by the extremely tiny scroll bar, which requires exquisite precision to click.

While the app can technically be used for free indefinitely, the limited number of assets, and especially the permanent reminder on your desktop, makes it necessary to upgrade to the full version for continued use.

Overall, Widgetter is a good way to quickly get some useful widgets on your desktop, and its wallpaper selection is impressive. The UI needs a bit of work, however, and more themes would be welcome too.
