A screenshot application for macOS that allows you to capture specific areas, windows, and even create rolling snapshots, while also providing extensive annotation tools

Without any third-party software, taking screenshots in macOS is not difficult. Apple provides you with a very intuitive and powerful screenshot utility, but there is always room for improvement and additional features.

Sinip Provides similar functionality to the built-in snapshot tool, but it works slightly differently, and has some other interesting quirks. You have many options when it comes to screenshot annotations, and the app even supports scroll capture.

Take a screenshot of a window or a specific area

The easiest way to take a snapshot is to use the default hotkey (⇧⌘X), and then select the screen area. The size of the selection box is displayed in the upper left corner, and you can even adjust its size when annotating.

Of course, if you can’t quickly capture the contents of a specific window, then any screenshot tool is not complete. With Xnip, all you have to do is to use the above hotkey and then place the cursor on the window. Or, you can hold down the Shift key to select several of them at once.

Impressive annotation tools

After taking a screenshot, you can edit it in a variety of ways. The app allows you to add various shapes, draw freely, pixelate an area, write text, highlight something, and even write down numbers related to the explanation that will be displayed on the right side of the image.

One problem is that it is unavoidable to save the image directly on the desktop through the annotation step. Yes, you can send it to the clipboard immediately, but if you need to capture multiple snapshots as quickly as possible, this is not very helpful.

Capture scrolling screenshots​​

Perhaps the defining function of the application is that it can create full-page snapshots, even if the entire content cannot be displayed on the screen at once. You only need to select an area, usually the entire visible page, and scroll down to the end. The app will automatically stitch content together and create seamless images.

Xnip does almost everything right, but it would be great if there was an easy way to save unedited screenshots. If you are interested in this app because of its annotation function and scroll capture function, it will not let you down.
