Yoink is a minimalist macOS utility that simplifies your workflow in such a way that you’ll wonder why it doesn’t come with the system by default.

When you navigate to the drag-and-drop output location, the app places a small window on the edge of the screen that can hold files or app content.

This way, you can seamlessly drag items to the Yoink window, continue navigating to your destination without worrying about not releasing your mouse, and complete the process in an easier way.

The Yoink app won’t know it’s there until you start the drag-and-drop process: the app’s transparent window will be visible on the left, edge of your Mac’s screen.

All you have to do is drag and drop your item into the Yoink window and continue navigating. The best part is that you can drag multiple files, and multiple drags are handled at the same time, which means you don’t have to move back and forth.

Change the position of the window on the screen

Through the Yoink status bar menu, you can modify the default position of the application window: on the left or right edge, in the top, center or bottom area.

Also, you can choose the window size: default (can hold up to 3 items), largest or smallest. You can also decide to automatically resize the window.

Adjust window behavior to better match your workflow

Other customization options are contained in the Yoink preferences window and are related to the behavior of the application. The Yoink window is displayed whenever you start dragging when the mouse is at the end of the screen or when a hotkey is pressed.

Additionally, you can have the window automatically move to the mouse position when dragging begins. Last but not least, Yoink gives you the option to create a list of ignored apps that won’t trigger the app window.
